Jay I have a new set of rules and I have played all 208 turns of WitE 1st twice using them and both times got a very close game that saw the Germans almost win one of them in sudden death taking Stalingrad on the last turn of summer only to have the Russians take it back in their half of the turn.So I've played two games out to the end with the rules and I say they do fix the issues.You say you have read them and don't think they work.Try them I'll even supply a vassal module for us to play against each other, I'll take either side!Chuck S. The German player’s dice roll results in an “exchange.” Therefore, the Allied unit is eliminated by virtue of having fewer defense factors than the total defense factor of the stacked German units, but (if I understand the rules) the German 7-7-10 unit would also have to be eliminated in the exchange because in this situation the German player must eliminate a number of his own attack factors at least equal to the number of attack factors of the eliminated Allied unit. Certainly, Dunnigan's is an interesting design approach, but, on the whole, it has also turned out to be disappointing in a number of important ways. The Axis player has a fixed reinforcement rate, but the Russian player must decide what type of units he wants to produce by allocating his available resources. I live in the UK and was an avid collector and player of SPI games in the late 70s and early 80s. Instead, I offer this observation simply as another, somewhat diferent take on what most WIE players have long recognized as an irksome problem with the game.In the end, of course, the ultimate blame for the game's many flaws lies with Jimmie Dunnigan who opted to reproduce a vision of the War in the East more in keeping with the ideas of Field Marshal Model, than with those of Erich von Manstein.
